2. Severe work hardening
The austenitic structure of austenitic stainless steel and some high-temperature alloy stainless steels contributes to its strong tendency to work harden during cutting, which is often several times that of regular carbon steel. Cutting at the work-hardening region shortens the tool's lifespan.
3. Easy to stick to the knife
Strong chips and a high cutting temperature during processing are properties shared by austenitic and martensitic stainless steel. The surface roughness of the machined items will be impacted by sticking phenomena like bonding and welding that happen when the tough chips pass past the rake face.
4. Quicker tool wear
The materials indicated above typically contain components that have high melting points, high plasticities, and high cutting temperatures, all of which cause tools to wear out more quickly and require more frequent sharpening and replacement, which reduces production efficiency and raises tool costs.
